Research Interests

The quality and safety of our agricultural products are the main focus of my research. I am interested in the application of Fourier Transform infrared (FT-NIR and mid-IR) spectroscopy in the field of food safety and quality assurance. Infrared spectral data combined with multivariate analysis techniques have a significant potential for the determination of minor food components and changes in food integrity. Topics of interest are the development of predictive models for the rapid detection, identification and classification of chemical & microbial contaminants and food components with biological activity. Also, the development of effective and inexpensive matrix preparation methods to remove interfering signal and facilitate rapid detection based on simple filtration, centrifugation, specific ligand affinity or solid-phase methods to concentrate pathogens or compounds of interest.
