YEAR 2001

CONGRATULATIONS to an outstanding group of future scientists, leaders, entrepreneurs, academics and regulators of the food enterprise. Here are the 2001 IFT Scholars from Ohio State University. We are pleased that IFT continues to recognize the nation's top scholars with significant awards. Our thanks to all faculty members who helped nominate and all students who took the time to submit their excellent credentials to the national jury. It is hardly a coincidence that most of these national scholars are also officers in our food science club and regular participants in volunteer work for the common good.

We have an outstanding group of award winners this year, bringing in at total of $12,000 in scholarship support from our professional society of 28,000 members. The Junior-Senior scholarship recipients include Carrie M. Kincaid, Stephanie Ann Cordell, Heather Biehl, Erin M. Horton, Emily J. Sharrock, and Jennifer K. Diehl. The graduate fellowship recipients include Mario G. Ferruzzi, Craig W. Hadley, and Gabriel K. Harris. A Sophomore Scholarship Alternative is Amanda R. Hubbard.

This is our best year for student recognition, verifying our progress toward a top stature program in food science. We are indebted to every student who applies for scholarships and awards, as these results verify that our students are internationally competitive. My personal thanks to the faculty members who took the time to write excellent letters of endorsement. A short list of IFT Scholars appears below, along with the sponsor and stipend,

Amanda Callison has won the AOCS Thomas Smouse Award, the highest honor bestowed by the American Oil Chemists Society. Amanda showed has the impressive award plaque, bookends and award statement in her office. She awaits the $10,000 check from AOCS. This recognition is a major accomplishment for our graduate program.
